Oh the glorious train! The beautiful London-Bournemouth that takes me back to the magical place of creativity! Hello Pavilion Dance, good to be back!
Before this train journey there was a lot of waiting, a lot of writing, a lot of planning, a failed funding bid, more planning, spreadsheeting… But I’m finally here, to complete the creation of They Live Next Door, together with the super team Mark Boldin, Nick Minns and Dougie Evans.
They Live Next Door evolved from a solo I created with Darius A Stankevičius in 2014 He Lived Next Door (commissioned by Wilton’s Music Hall for their inaugural Wilton’s Strike! Festival). While working on that piece lots of thoughts and questions were arising, which were taking me in a completely different direction and which I could not possibly fit in one solo.

So I wrote it all down and last year spent time in the studio (with the above Superteam) to try and find where those questions take us. It took us to even more questions, and some answers, too. I spent some time afterwards making sense of everything we created to try and answer the biggest question - what is it that I care about most in this work? Why does it matter to me? I wrote lots, read lots, went to some seminars, spent some ME time learning how to be a choreographer (thank you Charlotte Vincent!!), had long Skype meetings with (the wonderful dramaturg) Lou Cope… I think I learnt something new; about this work and myself.
And now we return to the studio for further development and production, and I can’t wait to see where we end up!
I’ll keep you posted.
