Mark Boldin, PERFORMER

Picture
Born in the ‘Garden of England’ Mark grew up and passed through the usual educational period of life unharmed in the picturesque city of Heidelberg, Germany. Coming from a theatre family (until today he’s not sure whether that was helpful or rather not) he continued his parents’ restless way of life and embarked upon a voyage through cities in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia where he danced with ballet as well as contemporary dance companies. He settled down for a while - close to 20 years - in Zagreb where he worked as a soloist with the Croatian National Ballet for over a decade. Having seen enough of the travails of permanent employment he turned freelance continuing on stage as a dancer and actor, but now focusing on his work as author and producer. His works toured all the major stages in Croatia and some of his pieces also made visits to festivals and theatres in Austria, Germany, Romania, the Republic of Serbia and the UK.

Mark was involved as movement director - occasionally as assistant director - in numerous drama, opera and independent productions across the remnant lands of what was once known as the friendly country of Yugoslavia. On a less regular note the occasional project ended up in South Africa and Colombia.

London based since 2012 he teaches the Romana’s Pilates method in a North London studio while maintaining his ties with companies and theatres in south-eastern Europe. His most recent contribution occurred in the more than picturesque town of Syracuse in Sicily, Italy, in May 2015 where he was responsible for stage movement in Seneca’s Medea directed by Paolo Magelli, With the latter he collaborates on a regular basis along with director Dino Mustafić and many other extraordinary artists he has grown fond of during his professional travels.

Somewhere in between those - travels, times and lines - he frequently returned to Heidelberg to work with vulnerable young people supporting their creative aspirations.
